Let's Be Realistic! |
Even though Youth Ministry is as good as its ever been, far too many young people don't even darken the church. It's not a lack of desire or effort on the part of the church, it is partially due to the dichotomy of evangelism and discipleship within youth programs.
The Dichotomy |
Youth Ministries that emphasize discipleship are often unattractive to alternative youth, and for good reason, most of these teens are not ready for discipleship. Conversely, ministries that are very evangelistic often discourage stronger teens, or create doubt among parents as to the spiritual effectivness of the youth program. Furthermore, harmonizing the two camps can lead to compromising both. |
Alternative Youth |
Every youth group has alternative youth! Their attendance is forced or bribed and their attention is anything but focused. They will see to it that you don't reach them; to do so would compromise their identity.

The Program Solid Rock Uses |
 | In conjunction with parents, youth workers, and youth pastors we develop a stategy to involve the identified student into one of Solid Rock Youth Ministries outings. On the Solid Rock outing the youth workers and staff of Solid Rock Youth Ministries address the students inhibitions to attend church. In these few days we hope to clarify, calm, and answer questions about the church they are involved with. Ultimately, we want the adolescent to desire attending church. After the outing we maintatin contact with the student through, youth outing reunions. Finally, we want the teen to become an active participant in the ministry. They may attend retreats as student leaders, and the cycle begins again! |
What We Want To Do For You! |
Although Solid Rock Youth Ministries is a non-profit youth organization, it will not take the place of the youth ministry found in the local church. Our ministry is a support for the local youth programs--not a substitute.We work specifically with alternative youth. We help break down the barriers that often keep them from continuing in the youth program and pursuing a relationship with God. |
